Overview & Vision
If you place a higher value on information from your trusted contacts than information from the public or companies you don't know,
then RealContacts can help you. RealContacts preserves the privacy and discretion that you value when communicating with your valued contacts,
while extending the reach of word of mouth outward to your contact’s contacts and beyond, under your control. Your opportunities and interests
are conveyed with connection context beyond your contacts without revealing your identity until you are ready to do so.
The first RealContacts application is a worldwide online employment service for permanent or temporary jobs, which brings employers and job seekers
together through their extended network of contacts. Our inspiration is the observation that the best employees and jobs are often referred through
trusted contacts and employees. The service is free to jobseekers and those helping out their contacts. Employers pay a success fee as a percentage of contract
or annual compensation only when they successfully hire someone, while saving money and screening effort by having fewer inappropriate applications.
By replacing the ad-hoc or manually intensive ways that people have contacted their networks, RealContacts makes it faster and easier to get results.
After users establish their online networks with the help of the service, or get invited to join existing networks, they can quickly and confidentially
post or be notified of jobs that are not typically visible to the general public. The service instantly reaches out in a repeatable way beyond a user's
direct contacts to potentially hundreds of indirect skilled contacts, from down the street to around the world.
Future application include getting advice on good (and bad) products and services, building teams and consortiums for projects, and buying, selling,
and trading goods and equipment, for example. We are keen to work with people and companies on these new applications.
The service first went live with an introductions and dating public beta service in 2001, and the lessons learned went into launching the first
commercial service, RealContacts Jobs, in May 2002.
